Standing Together welcomes the Government’s announcement to introduce Raneem’s Law
Following the murder of Raneem Oudeh, 22 and her mother Khaola Saleem at the hands of Ms Oudeh's ex-partner, Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse welcomes the Government’s announcement of embedding domestic abuse specialists in the 999 control rooms and enhancing domestic abuse protection orders through Raneem’s Law.
Standing Together believe:
It is vital 999 control room staff receive mandatory domestic abuse training so they can provide trauma informed responses to victims of coercive control so victims can come forward knowing Policing colleagues understand the impact this can have on their mental well-being.
This training must include identification of warning signs, safe enquiry, risk assessment and safety planning, underpinned by clear understanding of the impact of domestic abuse.
Piloting a domestic abuse prevention model will enable victims/survivors and their families to access robust action with the protective orders.
A statement from our CEO
“As a specialist VAWG-sector organisation tackling domestic abuse for 23 years, STADA expresses its commitment to work closely with the Government and provide the expertise to safeguard victim-survivors through effective models. Standing Together calls on Government to ensure that these measures will be part of a Coordinated Community Response (CCR). There is empirical evidence that shows this is the most effective way to safeguard victims of domestic abuse regardless of the level of risk posed to them. It saves lives and this must be the priority of us all.”
Cherryl Henry-Leach, CEO Standing Together.
