A Safer Future: Our Pledge to End Domestic Abuse
Our commitment to an NHS fit for the future that supports survivors of domestic abuse, helping to end Violence Against Women and Girls.
We, the undersigned, recognise that domestic abuse is a deep-rooted issue affecting individuals, families, and communities across the UK. It is a violation of human rights and a major health concern, placing immense strain on the NHS and costing approximately £2.3 billion each year. An NHS fit for the future must be equipped to support survivors effectively, ensuring a trauma-informed, coordinated, and sustainable response.
Through early intervention, collaboration, and a survivor-centred approach, we can help save lives, alleviate suffering, and build a society where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity, safety, and hope.
Today, we pledge our commitment to a future where:
Survivors receive support with dignity, compassion, and expertise.
Healthcare professionals have the training, tools, and resources to identify, respond to, and prevent domestic abuse.
Policymakers, decision-makers, and services collaborate to create lasting solutions that address the root causes and impacts of domestic abuse.
Survivors’ voices shape policies and interventions.
We acknowledge the government’s commitment to halving Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in a decade and recognise the vital role of the NHS in achieving this goal. Domestic abuse is not just a criminal justice issue—it is a health, economic, and societal issue that demands a united response.
