Local Health Work
“I was glad [the midwife] asked me, you suffer in silence unless you know of services. I wouldn’t have mentioned it so was glad she asked.”
— Survivor of domestic abuse
What we do
We bring together those providing health services in our local area to embed the components of a Coordinated Community Response to break down barriers between agencies and support partners to respond better to domestic abuse.
We do this by:
Implementing comprehensive domestic abuse policies for healthcare services
Organising steering groups bringing together key stakeholders in the coordinated community response to domestic abuse
Carrying out the role of 'Domestic Abuse Coordinator' (DAC) within healthcare services and helping services to implement their own DAC roles
Setting up networks of 'Domestic Abuse Links' within healthcare services to increase the service capacity to respond to the issue
Providing domestic abuse training for healthcare professionals to increase awareness and knowledge of the issue
Fostering closer relationships between healthcare services and local specialist domestic abuse services to improve referral pathways
Improving data collection around the service response to domestic abuse so that the extent to which guidelines and recommendations on responding to the issue have been implemented can be measured
